The Barn Gallery is a tastefully restored stone barn set in an idyllic location in the heart of West Cork with grounds set among the hills of West Cork that offer ample inspiration for paintings all throughout the year.

Sheila Hooks BA, ATD graduated from Loughborough College of Art & Design, England in 1973, before acquiring an Art Teaching Diploma at Liverpool. Since then Sheila has gained a wide experience of teaching art to all ages and abilities. She is a registered tutor with Cork County VEC and a Professional Associate of SAA.

Weekend Courses

There are four types of weekend courses for you to enjoy, as outlined below. Each course is designed to enable the individual to gain as much insight into their chosen media as possible, whether they are a beginner or of an intermediate level. The very small group (max. 6) provides ample time for questions and individual help when you most need it. Each day consists of approximately 6 hrs tuition during which time the mysteries of colour mixing, tone & composition etc will be unravelled. N.B. Accommodation can be arranged at a local approved B&B at an additional cost of €32 per night.

Sat. 10am-5pm & Sun 10am-4pm. Tuition Fees €140-€170

Silk Painting Courses

Silk Painting Weekends (beginners)
24th&25th July

9th & 10th October 2010
Learn the beautiful art of silk painting - and you don't have to be able to draw!
You are guaranteed to go away with at least two finished projects.
All specialist materials for the course are provided . Fees €170

Watercolour Painting Courses

Watercolour Weekends
Flowers & Gardens in Watercolour 30th & 31st July 2010
Landscapes & Gardens  14th & 15th August 2010
Wonderful wet in wet washes, glazes and plenty of hints and tips.

SAA Paints provided.       Fees€150

Pastel Painting Courses

7th & 8th August 2010
Colour at your fingertips. If you like instant results these perfect sticks of pure colour could be for you.

Drawing Courses

10 Week Drawing & Painting Courses
Commencing September
Max. 8 students.
These are structured courses in Drawing and Painting for beginners and intermediate.
Cost: €100 for 10 x 2 hours

10 week course of 3 hour sessions
available for the intermediate student on Thursday mornings
Cost: €145

Enquiries & Bookings

To make an enquiry or a booking for any tuition, please click here to visit our Enquiries & Bookings page . Upon receipt of your booking request, we will send a confirmation of the booking and course details to you. At this time a booking deposit of €50 will be payable to hold your place on the course. This deposit is non-refundable unless at least 28 days notice of cancellation is received. If for any reason The Barn Gallery cancels all money will be refunded in full. After receipt of your deposit you will receive a copy of the course details and a list of suggested materials.
